Known as the old public square, the property was the site of the first Jefferson County Courthouse. When the new courthouse was constructed two blocks east , the old structure was dedicated to the Hillsboro School Dist. In the late 1800's the old building was raised and a new school house was constructed that was utilized by the district until 1938. the building was removed from the premises in 1992.
