Longtime Hillsboro area residents can recall what was once known as Lakeside 21. Starting in 1958 the late Herman Mathies started the earth work for 2 lakes and one small pond on this tract just North of Highway A. along Hwy. 21. The smaller pond was used to raise fish to stock the 2 lakes and then people were allowed to fish for a fee. A two story commercial brick building was later constructed fronting on Highway 21. In 2003 the New Highway 21 took a portion of this tract including the building and one of the lakes. The remaining property, adjacent to Jefferson College, recently sold. Sunset Realty Co.handled the transaction.
